Red Stag Hunting

Whether you’ve never pursued red stag or are returning in search of another trophy, you’ll find the experience with Patagonia Wingshooting both memorable and deeply rewarding.

We’re pleased to be able to offer limited, wild red stag hunting on select private estancias with whom we’ve established trusted relationships over the years. These ranches offer a mix of rugged terrain, expansive views, and quiet, untouched valleys—ideal country for stalking mature stags. From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel the sense of place that defines hunting in Patagonia: the blend of natural beauty, traditional ranch culture, and a respect for the hunt that keeps fair-chase at the forefront.

King of the Deer

Our quarry is the majestic Red Stag (Cervus elaphus), introduced to Patagonia in the early 20th Century and now thriving across the southern Andes. Adaptable and sharp-sensed, they offer a challenging and rewarding hunt. In our region—Esquel, Trevelin, and the surrounding valleys—stags roam truly wild, providing an authentic big-game experience in one of the world’s last great wilderness areas.

Our Red Stag hunts are conducted on foot, spot-and-stalk, ensuring a true fair-chase experience.

We do not use vehicles or horses during the stalk—every approach is earned, step by step, through the same rugged terrain the stags call home. Expect to cover ground across steep Andean foothills, open grasslands, and dense lenga and ñire forests, always surrounded by breathtaking mountain vistas.

The peak of the hunting calendar is the Roar Season (March–April). During this dramatic time, stags enter their rut, filling the valleys with their deep, primal calls as they defend harems of hinds. For hunters, the roar is both a thrill and an advantage: the vocal stags reveal their locations, allowing for close encounters and intense stalks. Few experiences in hunting compare to the adrenaline of moving silently through the forest while the sound of a roaring stag echoes across the valley.

And there’s no better way to end a long day in the field than with warm Argentine hospitality, delicious local cuisine, and regional wines—enjoyed in boutique accommodations in Esquel, offering full amenities.
